Ideas to Tone Abs
Personally, I always though the key secret to ripped abs was performing a lot of abdominal exercises. I was a huge fan of performing high volumes of crunches as well as other exercises for the abdominals. And while such exercises are quite good, there are not effective in solo. In other words, they need to be combined with an overall comprehensive approach to weight loss.
Why Weight Loss Matters
So, why does dropping weight matter in terms of the ability to tone abs? Basically, your abs are muscles that are beneath the skin of the stomach. If a large amount of fat collects in between these two areas then the visibility of the abs will not be possible. Hence, you need to get you weight (i.e. your body fat levels) down to low enough level that the abs become visible. Stomach exercises alone does not burn belly fat. This is a huge myth that many people erroneously prescribe to and that is unfortunate.
Cardio and Weight Training
In order to lower you body fat levels to tone abs, you need to take part in a decent cardiovascular exercise program along with a progressive resistance weight training program. Jumping rope, jogging, and cycling would be perfect examples of excellent cardio work. Lifting weight is also recommended because it enhances lean muscle mass development which, in turn, speeds up the metabolism. If you do not want to pack on a high amount of muscle mass, then simply lift low amounts of weight for high reps. This will deliver excellent results.
And it should also go without saying that a proper diet is of paramount importance if you want to lose weight. Assuredly, you will not tone abs if you overeat! Personally, I wished I had followed this advice sooner even though I remember bodybuilding legend Joe Weider writing such advice in a column in 1987. It took many years for me to follow Weider's advice and I have to say I should have listened to him much earlier!
Hitting the Abs from Many Angles
It is necessary to point out that the abs need to be hit from every angle in order to effectively tone them. There are upper, lower, middle, and side ab muscles. As such, you need to integrate a comprehensive approach to properly developing them. This does not mean you need to perform extensively lengthy workouts on the abs but you will need to weave in the many different ab exercises in your weekly workout programs. This will certainly boost your ability to attain the ab appearance you are interested in.
