Water weight remains an area of confusion for many. While most do not understand the problem that water weight poses, others realize the bloated nature of water retention can prove difficult to deal with.

Additionally, those that maintain a decent level of lean muscle mass would assuredly wish to reduce the presence of water weight since it undermines their ability to maintain a lean physique. So, rather than deal with problems related to water retention, it would be a far better idea to learn how to lose water weight instead.

Personally, I have dropped water weight at different times in my life and ended up with a really ripped physique as a result!

Understanding Water Retention

Prior to knowing how to lose water weight, one needs to have a clear idea regarding what water retention actually is. I thought this was a complicated subject but it really is not.

Water retention is a generally benign condition where the body holds onto the water that it ingests which leads to excess swelling in the abdomen or the extremities. How does the water get into the system?

Simple: food, drink, and absorption through the pores. Due to various factors including diet, the body holds onto the water and this leads to the unfortunate bloating that results.

The Ways to Lose Water Weight

There are several ways in which you can effectively lose water weight. One of the best methods would be to avoid high amounts of salt and sodium in your diet.

Reduce Sodium Intake

Sodium is notorious for its water retaining impact on the body. Rather than deal with such an impact, it would be a much better plan to cut back on sodium to prevent the problem from occurring in the first place.

Also, you body will retain water when it feels it is not getting enough of it. This would be the body's self-defense mechanism against dehydration. So, if you increase your fluid intake to roughly 8 full glasses of water per day, you will discover your potential to retain water is diminished.

One way I deal with this is to keep my house stacked with bottled water. A bottle in the morning, afternoon, and evening has long since served me as a reliable strategy.

Well Balanced Diets

A well balanced diet is also the key to losing weight. Did you know that when you consumer too many carbohydrates, you end up retaining water? Conversely, if you cut your carb intake you shed excess water.

A diet too high in calories can also lead to packing on unnecessary water weight, which is why it is definitely advisable to eat a more balanced diet. Not only will it reduce the potential for water retention but it can also improve your health overall.

Herbal Products

There are also diuretic herbal products sold on store shelves in nutrition shops that can eliminate excess water. In fact, they may be the quickest way to lose water weight of all.

I have personally seen great results from using some of the name brand herbal supplements on the market. Just be careful not to overdo it with these herbal supplements because you do not want to shed too much water too quickly or you might suffer an adverse reaction as a result.

Needless to say, this would not be beneficial to your health.

Working Out

Exercise is also a great way to lose water weight. Part of the reason is that it will help shed water via sweat and the other reason is that it can boost metabolic function.

Of course, proper exercise contributes to improved heart health, which can be considered an "added bonus" on top of the potential to lose water weight.
